Brunswick Asia Pacific Group (BAPG) and Cummins South Pacific Pty Ltd have announced that their distribution joint venture, Cummins MerCruiser Diesel South Pacific (CMDSP), will change legal structure from the first quarter of 2010. The legal reporting entity will be dissolved and responsibilities will be picked up by the parent entities.
For customers and dealers the decision to change legal structure will have no impact; the two companies said they will simply divide the current CMD Marine product portfolio.
They reported that customers and dealers will deal with the same support staff and be able to source the same wide range of CMD products. The new structure will leverage the capabilities of both parents in the South Pacific.
Cummins South Pacific distribution network will assume responsibility for all shaft-drive, inboard and Zeus pod-drive products, while Mercury Marine distribution network (a part of BAPG) will continue to sell and support all high-speed and mid-range sterndrive products (QSD and QSB powered), with the addition of high-speed inboard products to their portfolio (QSD inboard family).
“The CMD South Pacific joint venture was established in 2003, a year after the formation of the global CMD Joint Venture between Cummins, Inc. and Mercury Marine, Inc., to help the two parent companies create the right level of cooperation and focus to support key CMD Marine customers throughout Australia and New Zealand” said Tim Worme, Cummins MerCruiser Diesel general manager.
“Now that we have achieved maturity and momentum at the local level this next step is a logical progression to continue to provide best-in-class customer support.
“The market is constantly changing and both parties believe the new distribution arrangement will provide the most focussed and responsive support model for our customers,” he said.
Globally, the two companies said the CMD Marine joint venture will continue to combine world-class research and engineering expertise such as resulted in the Zeus and Axius control systems together with efficient sales, service and distribution models suited to each territory.
